The Benefit Bank supports the most common tax return situations. This does not include individuals claiming to owe no Ohio income tax (IT 10) or individuals who owe Ohio business income taxes (Schedule IT BUS).

Before you begin, please review the Ohio tax forms that The Benefit Bank supports, as well as situations that may limit your ability to use The Benefit Bank to file your Ohio taxes.

Common General Limitations

You cannot use The Benefit Bank to file Ohio taxes if:

  • You would like to paper file your Ohio taxes
  • You are filing Married Filing Jointly (MFJ), but someone can claim either you or your spouse as a dependent. This situation requires that you paper file Ohio taxes, which cannot be done through The Benefit Bank
  • You took money from a college savings account or medical savings account and had expenses that are not considered qualified education expenses
  • You received federal interest and dividends subject to state taxation
  • You took a loss when you sold or disposed of your Ohio public obligation
  • You were not a resident of the state of Ohio on December 31, 2017
  • You want to use the OH IT1040 to file an amended individual income tax return
  • You want to use the OH SD 100 to file an amended school district tax return
  • You received Form W-2G Certain Gambling Winnings, and Ohio school district tax was withheld in box 17 of that form
  • You are claiming more than 14 dependents on Form IT 1040

You cannot use The Benefit Bank if you want to take these Ohio tax deductions:

  • Ohio taxes withheld for nonresident military personnel
  • Funds deposited into a medical savings account (MSA)
  • Income from an Ohio public obligation
  • Receipt of military injury relief fund amounts
  • Public service payments received from the state of Ohio or income from a transfer agreement
  • 75% business deduction for business income from one of the following types of businesses:
  • Pass-through entity (including a partnership, S Corporation, or LLC)
  • Sole proprietorship
  • Farming

You cannot use The Benefit Bank if you want to take these Ohio tax credits:

  • Ohio Resident Tax Credit
  • Business-related incentives
  • Ohio Adoption Credit
  • Lump Sum Retirement Credit Carryforward

The Benefit Bank supports the Ohio tax return forms listed in the chart below. Forms can be printed at the end of the Ohio Taxes section. However, some of these forms and schedules have lines or sections that we do not support.

You cannot use The Benefit Bank if you require a form or schedule for your tax return that is not listed in this table.

*Note for line 3: TBB supports reimbursements of college tuition expenses and fees deducted in any previous years, but does not support noneducation expenditures from a college savings account.
Ohio Schedule of Credits: Nonrefundable and Refundable Credits Lines 14-22, 28-32, and 35-39.
Ohio Schedule J: Dependents Claimed on the Ohio IT 1040 Return  
IT 40P: Income Tax Payment Voucher  
SD 100 School District Income Tax Return Lines 9, 11, 14, and 26.
You cannot use this form to file an amended school district income tax return.
SD 40P: School District Income Tax Payment Voucher  
Ohio IT NRC: Income Allocation and Apportionment Nonresident Credit and Part-Year Resident Credit Parts II, III, and IV

Common Forms We Do Not Support

The Benefit Bank does not support the common Ohio tax return forms listed below. You cannot use The Benefit Bank if you require one of these forms for your Ohio tax return.

  • Schedule IT BUS: Business Income
  • Form IT 10: Ohio Income Tax Information Notice
  • Form IT 1040ES: Ohio Individual Estimated Income Tax
  • Form SD 100ES: Ohio School District Estimated Income Tax
